Hello! My name is Bui Hung Son, born and raised in the land of Thuan Loc, Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam, renowned for its exquisite traditional embroidery art of Hue. Since childhood, I have been captivated by the beauty and vitality of the intricate embroidered works from this alluvial land. Today, my dream is to preserve and advance this cultural heritage by creating highly practical embroidered products, not only to honor the artisans and traditions but also to introduce to the world the unique values of Thuan Loc. Through creativity and determination, I hope to bring pride to the community and contribute to the sustainable development of this traditional embroidery art.

EMBROIDERY CRAFT IN THUAN LOC

Although referred to as a ‘village’, Thuan Loc is actually a ward located in the center of Hue city, and furthermore, it is one of the four wards situated within the Citadel of Hue.

According to documents we have read, during the Nguyen dynasty, the land of Thuan Loc served as a forbidden forest for the king’s hunting expeditions. Over time, the forest gradually withered away. Prior to 1975, as part of the policy to establish a protective belt around Hue, residents from various places were relocated here to form a new village called Thuan Loc. Following the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country in 1975, as well as the general situation of urban residents in Hue, the majority of Thuan Loc residents were unemployed, leading to precarious living conditions. The Hue Municipal Party Committee advocated for organizing vocational training, creating employment opportunities, especially for the youth, to gradually stabilize the lives of the people. Embroidery emerged as a profession that caught the attention of the authorities.
